Big Bear Run 24-25, 2006...Campout for some!
Most of us local boys met at Pappy & Harriett's in Pioneer Town at 7:30 AM and took Burns Canyon Rd.
We then were to meet the rest of the group at the Holcomb Valley Rd. turn-off on Hwy. 18 north of Baldwin Lake. However we thought we were the only one's to make the rendezvous finding no one there. We waited for about 45 minutes knowing Greg was definitely going to meet us. After the apparent no-show, I summonsed Catfish to drive to the end of the pavement to see if anyone was there. Yup, they were all waiting for us...oops!
We had 10 rigs show for the run.
We headed for the infamous John Bull Trail.
We arrived uneventful. This photo says it all..."We better walk a bit to
find the line."
Gee Bob, What'cha doing there...with 3 wheels off the ground and spin'n?
However the John Bull did eliminate the Hummer H2 real quick like.
Here's Ted taking his caboose for a ride. We'll have to see how pristine that
thing makes it through the whole trip.
Curt with his Uni-Mog
Jeff and his family
Greg and his Formula X-Chassis
The Mog seems a bit stiff but does well.
We got through the John Bull with no problems. Here we kick back and say
good-bye to those who can't make the over-nighter
We headed west to the Holcomb Creek area, northwest of Fawnskin. Here we make
the stream crossing. Here is Mike Evens and his son Spencer
Then it's Earl Ostler and his family going as far as they can before having to
turn back.
Just another nice Jeep
and another
Now we are headed for the Rock Garden
Ooops! How'd that happen?!
Here's a guy that was in over his head. They were on there way home to OC and
was thinking this was the way...WRONG!
They made it through the first guntlet, but soon after, they were coming back
through. Some other group laughed at them when they heard where they were
heading and told them it gets much worse ahead.
Ted's trailer looks like it has survived a beating and only has a few dents
in the low profile fenders.
This is one of the funest stretches of the whole trip.
Earl and crew did very well up until this point. After giving it as much as that
Ram could take, the towel was tossed. Awesome job Earl.
More of the Rock Garden
These I believe were the guys that laughed at the lil' black Ranger
Nice Land Rovers!
Looks like a good place to call "Camp"
Posers
Chow-Time!
The perfect spot to catch some ZZZZ's
Sunset
Yup, couldn't resist the "Night Run"...back to the Rock Garden!!!
New day. And yes, it's the Rock Garden...again!
Hmmm, Did I see more mods to those fenders on Ted's trailer?!
We headed back to reverse the John Bull Trail
Here's a few newbies to the JB, they had their fair share of sweating bullets as
they appeared to be a little in over their heads. We never saw them make it.
However it wasn't looking too good for the second one of their group, he almost
lost it on to his lid for what would have been a spectacular yard sale...yikes!
Onward we go, and yes, another photo opp.
Looks like a giant Bonsai Tree
I have no idea what happened hear...except "What happens on the mountain,
stays on the mountain!"
Another perfect weathered weekend comes to an end. Was great fellowshipping with everyone who made the run. A good time was had by all...as Catfish would say!
Hope to see you all on the next one!!!
